Lonesome Glory Steeplechasing Legend! Item: 572 Considered one of the greatest steeplechasing racehorses ever, Lonesome Glory raced at the top of his game for nine years. Ridden by top jockey Blythe Miller, daughter of trainer Bruce, Lonesome Glory was piloted to 19 wins and five Eclipse Awards - a steeplechasing record. The handsome chestnut was the first American-trained steeplechaser to win in England, and he was so impressive, that race is now named in his honor. More recently, Lonesome Glory won both of his 1999 starts, Keeneland and the Carolina Cup he won the latter by 6 1-2 lengths in front of a crowd of almost 70,000 people. In November 1999, he suffered a tendon injury days before he was scheduled to attempt his fourth win in the Colonial Cup, and instead, Lonesome Glory retired a champion. Breyer's Lonesome Glory, the first steeplechase model in the line, is packaged with a special insert featuring beautiful race photography by Tom Haynes.
