Adam Cartwright's Horse from BONANZA®!
BONANZA®! One of the longest-running Western series (1959-1973) on TV followed the Cartwright™ family: father Ben, (portrayed by actor Lorne Greene), and sons Adam, (Pernell Roberts), Hoss (Dan Blocker), and Little Joe (Michael Landon) on their 1860s Nevada Territory ranch. Great casting can be credited for the show's many horse-loving fans, as each Cartwright cowboy was paired with a mount uniquely suited to their characters.
Eldest brother Adam, the de facto ranch foreman, rode Sport, a bright chestnut-colored part Thoroughbred gelding. Adam was played by actor Pernell Roberts, who was a natural athlete and worked hard to perfect his riding skills. He was the wranglers' favorite because he was not afraid to admit he had a lot to learn, and they were always willing to give lessons to an eager pupil.
Initially Pernell's character was paired up with a horse named Beauty. Rambunctious and high spirited, Beauty liked to throw back his head, and was replaced by season four with Sport. Except for his hooves that looked like white slippers, Sport and Beauty looked almost identical. Adam rode Sport for the rest of his tenure on the Ponderosa, and when giving chase or riding by Lake Tahoe towards Virginia City, the pair often led his family and their mounts.
This beautiful model of Sport is hand-painted and highly collectible, and is sure to inspire new generations of Bonanza fans!
